What Did Jesus Really Do for Us, Does it Matter?
A Child is born to us, and the government shall be upon His shoulder. His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace. That’s a month full by itself. This Child that grew up and became Lord and Savior of the world is Jesus Christ the Son of God. It was His sacrifice that saved us from the fires of hell. His sacrifice broke and destroyed the works of the devil so we could be free from habitual sin. It’s our choice to live in this freedom by being doers of God’s word, not hearers only (James 1:22-25). Father God sent Jesus to destroy the works of the devil, and He did so by giving Satan the Holy beat down in hell (1 John 3:8). Now we don’t have to carry our sins there personally, and forever be in hell. The work at Calvary was necessary and the work in us needing to be done is necessary for the completion of the abundant life promised by God. As we yield to, and eventually find it enjoyable to do God’s commandments, we can live above the evil in this world (John 17:15). That was the ultimate purpose of the work at Calvary, because evil shall remain until Jesus’ return.
